Grandma’s Cottage

Our client wanted to share her home with her daughter’s family without compromising her own autonomy. She hired us to design an additional dwelling unit in the backyard, and asked that we employ our experience in ecological architecture to realize her commitment to giving the new home a light carbon footprint.

At 450 square feet, this residence packs a lot of green into a small footprint. The project is Build It Green certified and, and won the “Judges Choice for Less is More” award on the 2009 BIG/KTVU green home tour. We also received a commendation from the San Leandro City Council recognizing the project’s ecological merits.
